🚸 End of year volunteers needed

🕺🏽 Our fantastic Beacon Center is putting on a shindig for the graduating students, and volunteers are needed to help out with the 8th Grade Dance. We’re primarily asking for 6th and 7th grade parents to help setup and chaperone the event, but if you want to keep an eye on your 8th grader, you won’t be turned away. If you’re available to help the afternoon of THURSDAY, MAY 30th, please signup here:

https://signup.com/go/AEBZpPE

👩‍🎓 The 8th Grade Graduation is MONDAY, JUNE 3rd, and 6th and 7th grade parents are asked to help with crowd control and ticket-taking. The event is at Lincoln High, and if you are available during the early afternoon, please signup here:

https://signup.com/go/vynxaPt

🍃 And finally, a stunning garden creates some majestically dir-tee Garden Laundry. If you can pickup the gloves and towels on Tuesday, June 4th, and get them back to school by Wednesday, June 5th, please signup here:

https://signup.com/go/uUCqfxo

🐌 Ms Kasey also needs donation for the 6th grade end of the year garden pizza party?!🍕 We need TONS of mozzarella cheese, flour, pizza sauce, and firewood.

-6 boxes of firewood (I usually buy the large boxes at Safeway, which might be 20 lbs)

-120 pounds of flour (all purpose/bread flour/ and/or whole wheat flour is OK!)

-Gluten free pizzas (4)

-Pizza Sauce/marinara sauce

-Mozzarella cheese

-Dry-activated yeast (1 large container from Costco should be good!)

Can you help make pizza/manage the line/pass out pizzas on either afternoon of June 3rd or 4th in the garden? 1:30-3:30pm

We will start accepting donations whenever you can bring them! There is a refrigerator we can put the cheese in. The parties will be on Monday, June 3rd and Tuesday, June 4th in the afternoon. Send your students in with supplies if that is easiest!

☕Next Coffee Chat: May 30th at 8:45am

Everyone is welcome. Last chance for this school year! See here.

📺 And don’t forget media night on May 28th at 6:30!

🙏 Gratitude

Thanks to Mary Li for helping make the year’s last bagel party possible (and congratulations to Ms. Flores and her homeroom for winning the party by turning in all their lunch forms).

From Ms. Kasey:

“Thanks so much to those of you who helped at our last volunteer work day. It was amazing having so many people come out to pitch in! I have a few final asks of you as we wrap up the school year”

1.) Any parents interested in stepping in to serve as the PTA liaison to the garden? This is going to be especially important next year as there will be a new garden coordinator who might need some additional support connecting with the community. This person helps to make sure the garden coordinator is supported, as well as fulfilling his/her hours and commitments.

2.) Can you donate supplies for the 6th grade end of the year garden pizza party?!🍕 We need TONS of mozzarella cheese, flour, pizza sauce, and firewood.

👩🏽‍🏫 Teacher Appreciation week: May 6th to 10th. Coming soon!

Teacher and Staff Appreciation is the week of May 6. We are grateful to have such wonderful, dedicated, hard working teachers and staff at APG. We have two opportunities for you to show your appreciation for them:

1) Bake treats that will be part of a special surprise. Drop off your baked goods on Monday, May 6, by the end of the school day in the office.

2) We are providing breakfast for the staff meeting on Wednesday, May 8. Help us give them an extra special breakfast by signing up to bring food or juice. All food is appreciated, but we especially need cut fruit.

Sign up here for both events.

So much of kids’ social lives happens online. Whether they’re texting with their study group, flirting on social media, or voice-chatting on game platforms, middle and high schoolers can learn to communicate in safe and healthy ways. These skills will help kids — and the people they’re communicating with — have positive experiences online.Read all about it in this month’s blog at Common Sense Media.

🙏 Open House success and gratitude!

Thank you to all of the volunteers and attendees who helped make our 3rd Annual Open House and Garden Day a huge success! We had a great turnout. Thank you to Assemblyman Phil Ting for partnering with us by bringing his annual community bike fair to the event. SNBC/Beacon, APG student council, and Ms. Kasey and the APG garden volunteers had projects and activities all day. See you next year!
